Nowadays, facing the fierce competition caused by globalization, more resources have been invested in education by plenty of countries, as a crucial means to keep their competitiveness. Hong Kong is no exception. Obviously, there are two main trends of higher education in Hong Kong including massification and internationalization. Interestingly, from the daily observation, we can observe that more mainland students who always speak mandarin can be seen on a university campus. Hence, a myth is raised because of this phenomenon. A worry is found since they are afraid that the origins of non-local students become homogenous and the internationalization of higher education in Hong Kong in name only. Therefore, this study helps to reveal whether the purposes of internationalization can be reached or not and what the practice actually is. In this qualitative study, student aspects under the internationalization of higher education were focused because they are the group who most directly experience higher education. Semi-structured interviews and documents analysis were done to collect data. Specifically, this paper tries to explore the myths and realities about internationalization in Hong Kong, by understanding university students' daily school experience, expectations, and thoughts.With reference to the empirical data, this study confirms that university students have a positive view towards higher education internationalization, and they do support it because of various reasons. Students' discourse showed that they tend to describe their higher education internationalization experience as a process of cultural exchange among students. It also revealed that there are differences in experiences of university students under higher education internationalization. Besides, unlike strict definitions, they tend to distinguish "non-local students" from a cultural perspective which provide a new definition for it
