Description:
Objectives: The current study examined the effects of career development intervention on junior high school students’ career self-efficacy, positive academic emotions, and academic motivation. Additionally, it explored whether Positive academic emotions mediate Career self-efficacy and Academic motivation. Methods: A sample of grade one students (n=80, Mage=12.81 years, SD=0.62) was recruited from a junior high school in mainland China, including an intervention group (n=40) and a control group (n=40). It was a three-wave, short-term longitudinal research. The intervention group received a four-week career development intervention, and both groups underwent three time-point tests. Results: The intervention did not significantly alter the intervention group’s PAEs, AM, and CSE. It confirmed that CSE was positively correlated with AM. Not only was CSE directly related to PAEs, and PAEs were directly related to AM, but CSE also indirectly affects AM through PAEs. Conclusion: The results failed to prove the effectiveness of the intervention, but they did identify the close relationship among CSE, PAEs, and AM. Moreover, it proved a mediating effect between PAEs, CSE, and AM.
