Description:
By integrating the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) framework with the Creative Problem-Solving (CPS) model, this project addresses the lack of opportunities for creativity enhancement in Hong Kong's primary schools. It nurtures students' creative thinking and problem-solving skills. Through this thematic unit, students explore the principles of sound and musical instruments, engaging in hands-on tasks such as crafting their musical instruments. These activities encourage divergent and convergent thinking, fostering creativity in an authentic, interdisciplinary learning environment. The project was piloted with six primary students over three double lessons, demonstrating its potential to boost self-perception of creativity and engagement. Students displayed increased curiosity, creativity, and satisfaction with their learning experiences. However, areas for improvement were identified, such as the need for enhanced scaffolding and guided discovery to address challenges in task complexity. Refinements were made to the teaching package, including modifications to lesson structures, explicit teaching strategies, and additional resources to support students' creative processes. The project's outcomes highlight the viability of integrated STEAM education as a platform for fostering creativity and problem-solving skills, providing valuable insights for future curriculum development and interdisciplinary integration.
