Description:
This study explores the implementation and impact of Knowledge Management (KM) practices in a private school in Shenzhen, China, with the aim of enhancing school effectiveness through digital transformation and collaborative knowledge-sharing. Employing a Design-Based Research (DBR) methodology, the research was conducted in four iterative cycles that involved the design, implementation, and evaluation of KM strategies aligned with the school’s real-world educational challenges.Grounded in theoretical frameworks such as Nonaka and Takeuchi’s Socialization – Externalization–Combination–Internalization (SECI) model, Communities of Practice, and absorptive capacity theory, the study utilized a mixed-methods approach that included surveys, semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS to identify trends and changes in KM awareness and performance metrics, while qualitative data were coded thematically with NVivo to gain deeper insights into stakeholder experiences and organizational learning.Findings revealed that the integration of KM practices, supported by digital tools and leadership engagement, significantly improved teacher collaboration, resource sharing, and academic outcomes. The study also identified contextual enablers and barriers to KM implementation, highlighting the importance of stakeholder buy-in, policy alignment, and capacity building in private school settings. The research contributes to both theory and practice by providing a validated KM implementation framework tailored to the private education sector. Practical recommendations are offered for school leaders and policymakers aiming to leverage KM for sustainable educational improvement. Findings suggest the possibility of improvements in this context, contingent on consistent routine use and local enabling conditions
